"Lewis has such a gift for storytelling... he writes as lucidly for sports fans as for those who read him for other reasons."--Janet Maslin, New York Times When we first meet Michael Oher is one of thirteen children by a mother addicted to crack; he does not know his real name, his father, his birthday, or how to read or write. Downing tools in the allotment where they have toiled for the last six years, Valerie and her husband Wolfram decide to cycle to Germany to visit his mother. Before they leave, Val's guide the Aztec Priest appears among the bean rows and tells her this will be a Vision Quest - and so it turns out to be, not least due to their involvement in Channel 4's 'Real Holiday Show'. In spite of the dangers they encounter on this trip they develop an appetite for foreign parts and embark on many subsequent cycling adventures, all of which turn out more or less disastrously. Travel with them as they ride through France, Italy and their beloved Black Forest - the stoic Val shouting instructions from behind as the hapless blind Wolf does his best to avoid hitting anything. Share their horrors and delights at the larger-than-life characters they meet abroad and the comradeship of their Asian neighbours on the allotments. A heartwarming and spiritual tale of two lives inextricably intertwined - until Fate intervened.

What explains public debt spikes since the end of WWII? To answer this question, this paper identifies 179 debt spike episodes from 1945 to 2014 across advanced and developing countries. We find that debt spikes are not rare events and their probability increases with time. We then show that large public debt spikes are neither driven by high primary deficits nor by output declines but instead by sizable stock-flow adjustments (SFAs). We also find that SFAs are poorly forecasted, which can affect debt sustainability analyses, and are associated with a higher probability of suffering non-declining debt paths in the aftermath of public debt spikes.

For many of us, theology, rather than the Bible itself, comprises our knowledge of God. This knowledge, however, is a gift from the Holy Spirit. In order to find it, we must allow the Holy Spirit to direct us when we read the Bible instead of relying upon theologians' interpretations. The Bible's Tare and Blind Spot takes a hard look at the diverse, complex, and sometimes incompatible beliefs of various Christian groups. Author Steven Iruthaya shares how portions of the Church have misrepresented and misapplied the teachings in the Scriptures over the past two thousand years. Through analysis, he contends that religious leaders have agendas that they do not always make clear. Iruthaya raises a number of significant issues that have caused discussions and controversies throughout the history of the church. He briefly explores early, middle, and modern Christianity's doctrines and then focuses on pertinent topics such as the Holy Spirit, the life of Jesus, the Ten Commandments, and more. His conclusions are challenging and, for some, perhaps provocative. An informative treatise on Christianity, The Bible's Tare and Blind Spot calls Christians to challenge their long-held assumptions and, in doing so, find greater faith.
